Why I Love Anime Part 1: Kidou Senshi (Mobile Suit) Gundam by princeroy

Well, beginning, I'd just have to ask "What isn't there to like?" When one considers how old the Gundam series is and how far its progressed in the years, it can only be assumed that the series is well liked both nationally and internationally. But, why would anyone want to watch Gundam, why would anyone want to start from the beginning, you may ask?

First off, the main character (Amuro Ray, Kamille Bidan (Zeta), Judau Ashta (Double Zeta)) is usually a young man (or young woman) which in turn generally tends to connect with the core audience of the series (13 - 17), while adding a strong war-time political message for a more older crowd. The series get strangely darker as they progress, however, sending more of a soldier's point of view, but this is good that Tomino manages to extend his reach towards everyone. Also, the Gundams are usually formed in an appealing, if not questionable, sense of design.

The RX-79 Mobile Suit "Gundam" is (like the rest of the Gundams) shaped like a human being. Now, logically its not very scientifically sound to have a man shaped mobile suit, especially if you're fighting in environments where a tank would be useful, but then you'd have to take into account that the Gundams go through conversion phases in mid air and are also made for space battles, since the story has a lot to do with spacial colonies. Legs allow for repelling and a secondary form of propulsion better than treads would, while providing a slight boost in aerodynamics. The RX-79 also comes equipped with a beam sabre, a beam lance, and a jet propelled spiked one-pronged flail, a beam rifle, large bazooka, and a sulfur grenade. All of these are created to scale for the Gundam's use.

Amuro's main objective in the Gundam original series is the protection of "White Base" (a mobile base that assists in the Federation's plans to win the war for galactic dominance as opposed to Zeon). The soldiers and civilians on-board White Base are also as well fleshed out as the main character (which is more than can be said about the Gundam Wing pilots who lack any emotion other than "kill".) Also there are characters like Ramba Ral and Char Aznable on the enemy side, who are just fucking cool.

And finally, we move on to the best part of any anime, battle scenes. For the time, I have to say the battles were pretty intense and damn brutal. The first scene brought to mind is when Char fires a missile into Kycillia's ship, which then takes her head CLEAN off (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJN4-dZBNa4). There's also the scene from Zeta when Kamille impales Scirocco with the entire front part of his core fighter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCRUTQt_vfM).

All and all, I think if you go in expecting to see giant robots and like it, you'll get all that you're asking for. This is an amazing series, and if anything, check out the english dub for Brad Swale. Can't help but love it.

QUOTES

"In the middle of a battle, Ramba Ral forgot to fight."
"Disappear from this world!"
"Don't worry, Garma, you'll be seeing your sister soon."
"We're jumping onto White Base! AHHHHHH!"

Up next: Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star)
FUNimation...FANtastic. princeroy's guide to principle.

It's cool guys, cat's out of the bag. Yes, I did get hired by FUNimation and my contract was delivered to them in person on June 11, 2009. That was also my first day of official recording in one of their studio-booths. The experience itself was pretty amazing and I got to meet a lot of interesting people, one of which would be my wonderful vocal director, Ms. Leah Clark. She's been the only one that I've worked with so far and hopefully within the next five years I'll be a main character in a series she'll direct.

Most people have the wrong impression about voice acting, however. It is tough work, I guarantee you. I can't go into too much detail regarding it, but even doing background voices is difficult work, but its still worth all the effort. I would of course reccommend this line of work to more people, but don't attempt to go in thinking you're a badass and can do anything. You'll get the back of Ms. Wendy's hand. Approach with caution, but don't worry about letting loose when its time to shine, you know.

One last bit of advice, that I must also be sure to follow, even though I've only been there once. Keep your damn mouth shut when you're not making an amusing joke or haven't been asked anything. You're spending a lot of time with the same people and there is no need to say something that would make you a potential enemy to anyone in the room with verily more status than you. These guys are fun, and they're willing to make jokes like everyone else, but remember, THEY ARE STILL HUMAN AND THIS IS STILL A JOB. Some things are unacceptable in the work place and have no place there. Be curteous to others, even if they may seem like douchebags. This will make work a more plentiful experience for you and will hopefully get you in good favor with the other party.

Feel free to contact me with questions at my youtube page,
SEND MESSAGES NOT COMMENTS OR PAGE COMMENTS.
NOTE: SOME QUESTIONS I WILL NOT ANSWER.
http://www.youtube.com/princeroy
NarutoBandai Connect

NamcoBandai's CyberConnect2, has unleashed a SLEW of games recently,
regarding everyone's favorite chunin, jonin, sanin and kages, and has
released them in quite heavy doses; most notably, the "Naruto: Ultimate
Ninja" series. With the release of Ultimate Ninja 4 in America, it
seems that US fans will get to see more Shippuuden for their money's
worth. However, this will undoubtedly mean a slew of Shippuuden games,
at least one being released every year and most likely with little plot
change. The question now is: Do you want to see these games be produced
in mass quantity, or would you rather have them slow down on game
releases and give more quality than quantity, upon playing the games? I, personally think that NamcoBandai should focus on the handheld market, as opposed to simply making various console games at a time, and ever so often, they should release a good console game. It's a long process to make good console games, and making decent handheld games would take less time. However, releasing in mass to get money, without thinking through the process, is a somewhat incompetent move, though people seem to enjoy getting new things as quick as possible. This, however a good thing as it may seem, could lead to the downfall of a company, as people will always come to expect the same of their product. So here's a hint, do handhelds in rapid succession and console games in bi-yearly gaps.
